Circles

“The Circle is a process that brings together individuals who wish to engage in conflict resolution, healing, support, decision making or other activities in which honest communication, relationship development, and community building are core desired outcomes.”

~ Circle Keeper Manual

Circle Curricula: Girls and health circles are not the only curricula that we are working on. We have:

  • Men’s

  • Girl’s

  • Multicultural

  • Health

  • General

The Circles curriculum currently consists of

  • examples from the training of Kay Pranis, national leader in restorative justice, specializing in Peacemaking Circles;

  • lessons from Conflict Resolution programs;

  • lessons designed by NICE staff in response to teacher requests; and

  • lessons focused on special content and cohorts.

Circles Curricula

Currently there are two Circle curricula being developed — the Girls’ Circles and the Health Circles.

There are 12 Circle Plans for the Health Curriculum. Topics progress from an introduction to values, empathy, healthy relationships, expressing emotions, peer pressure, bias awareness, stereotypes, gender and sexuality, an SEL mystery, and a closing session. The facilitators will also focus on Conflict Resolution.

The 12-week Young Women's circle Curriculum topics are specific to high school girls and include connections with others, team building within the Circle group, building confidence, goal setting, self-talk, women’s health and women’s empowerment, bias and cultural awareness, family dynamics, and women’s role in dating.

Interventions & Student Advocacy

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Interventions & Student Advocacy

  • Our overall intention is to connect students with the appropriate resources they need to address the situation they are in. We also promote SEL skills to help students develop tools that will help them navigate future challenges on their own. Student advocacy is all about NICE highlighting student's needs, making sure their voice is heard, and empowering students to advocate for themselves.

    The themes consist of:

    • Academic/Disciplinary

    • Personal Safety/Wellness

    • Relationships/Family

Professional Development

For professional development, NICE has recently facilitated a workshop with the entire school staff with the theme of SEL and how to build connections with students virtually. Schools attend and presents at parent conferences to promote the program and facilitate parent discussion circles.
